Today’s work focused on beginning the integration of the carbon fiber tubes into the aircraft structure and testing the control surfaces using the RC transmitter and receiver. The carbon tubes were fitted into the airframe to act as wing spars and structural supports, improving rigidity while maintaining a low overall weight. After securing the tubes, I powered the receiver and verified correct channel mapping on the transmitter. I tested each control surface to ensure proper direction, range of motion, and smooth response. Minor adjustments were made to linkages and endpoints. This work moved the project closer to a fully controllable VTOL system and directly supported my SMART goal of assembling and validating all major flight-critical components.

Today’s work focused on finishing the string-pull system for the VTOL drone’s wing-folding mechanism, which directly supports my SMART goal of developing a functional and reliable VTOL transition system. The system moves a sub-section of the aircraft forward and backward to fold and deploy the wings, helping meet the specific and measurable objective of achieving consistent wing motion. By testing, adjusting tension, and fixing alignment issues, I made clear progress within the planned timeline, demonstrating that the goal is achievable and relevant to VTOL aircraft design and aerospace engineering principles.

Today’s work focused on finding the correct carbon fiber tubes to use as wing spars and for overall structural support of the VTOL drone. I researched different tube diameters, wall thicknesses, and material strengths to ensure they would provide sufficient rigidity while keeping weight low. I compared these options to the expected loads on the wings during takeoff, transition, and forward flight. By the end of the session, I identified suitable carbon tubes that balance strength and weight, supporting my SMART goal of selecting reliable components for a safe and efficient VTOL aircraft design.

Today, I learned how to properly connect the main drone components of the medical VTOL aircraft, including the motors, ESCs, battery, power distribution, and flight controller. I focused on correct wiring, signal connections, and safety practices to ensure reliable operation and reduce the risk of electrical failure. This work supports my SMART goal by improving my understanding of how individual systems integrate into a functional VTOL aircraft and reflects aerospace engineering practices related to system integration and aircraft reliability.

AKA Lots of you tube videos on how to connect everything. Also I ordered all parts needed to create the said drone. Will most likely want you helping me with this since you're more knowledgeable in this field. Parts will all be here next week!

Today, I researched propulsion and power requirements for a medical VTOL aircraft. I evaluated thrust-to-weight needs, efficiency, and safety considerations to determine suitable motors and a compatible battery system. This work directly supports my SMART goal by identifying reliable power components capable of supporting medical payloads while maintaining stable VTOL performance. The process reflects real aerospace engineering practices, where engineers select propulsion systems that balance performance, efficiency, and mission safety.
